I recently graduated from ASU’s Walter Conkrite School of Journalism, my television show Real Talk with Louanna was a huge success in the community, and I had fallen in love with a man that I truly believed would be my husband. It was a long road from being a child sold for drugs by my own mother and spending most of my life in the foster care system. In everyone’s eyes, I had made it. No one knew the depth of my journey.
In reality, I was suffering. The emotional and physical abuse I endured for years still haunted me. I struggle with anger and depression. Those behaviors carried over into my relationship. I allowed myself to be in bondage to someone in exchange for what I thought was love, to the point where I made a decision that would later change my life forever.
The pain of the decision that he conviced me to do and my relationship triggered such a severe depression it affected my physical well being. After being admitted to the hospital for what I thought was cancer, I was diagnosed with a rare condition called Addisons Disease.
Addisons Disease is a life threatening disorder that occurs when your body produces insufficient amounts of certain hormones produced by your adrenal glands. My doctor explained to me had I waited any longer, I would have lost my own life. After a two week hospital stay and several cortisone shots later, I was released. I was still suffering from the emotional distress of what I had done to my child. I was advised by my physician that I had to find deliverance from the pain in order to become healthy.
That deliverance came from developing a relationship Jesus Christ. I am still in treatment for Addisons and I manage it by changing my diet and living a healthy lifestyle. I receive Christian counseling on a weekly basis which has assisted with the healing.
It is now my personal mission to support others who are suffering from Addision’s Disease by creating a national awareness campaign through the Truimph over Tradgey Pagent. It is important to let the community know what causes Addisons Disease and the resources available to help people who are effected. The goal is to raise $2500.00 to develop the awareness campaign.
Thank You for all of your support. This is just the first step to bring awareness to Addision’s Disease .
